Post by ShaunJUK on Sun 15 Apr 2012, 9:10 am

Ok so we have our dandy but what do we need in it?

I need help compiling a list of everything you use when you are away and whether you store it in your dandy or not.

pots, pans, bedding, lighting, heating, everything...

I dont wanna get somewhere and find something missing

Thanks

You may wonder why an electric kettle, well sometimes we use sites without showers and if its a warm evening i dont want the gas on to boil kettles for getting washed, stays cooler with the electric.

If your not fitted with lights inside we use theses now with cheap batteries

A torch in case of late night toilet trips
A table if you didn't get one with it
Comfy chairs for sitting in the awning or outside, choose carefully as the cheap picnic chairs can get uncomfortable after a while
17 windbreaks hope Helen doesn't see this one

Don't think anyones mentioned a sewing kit.
I had to go and buy one, as our 2 year old kept sliding down the sleeping bag, so I folded it in half and tacked it, so he could only get his feet to where I'd folded it. It was either that, or fork out £25 for a toddlers sleeping bag. HOW ON EARTH they can charge more money for less material is beyond me lol.
Anyway, Sewing kit is a must. But don't get a cheap one. a small packet of needles, and a couple of spools of cotton are much better than a cheap kit with 18 colours of cotton that snaps when you look at it, and 12 needles that bend at the mere thought of uri-geller.

A bucket to fill with water and some plastic containers with sealing lids in case the fridge dies on you. Put in the shade and change the water regularly. If you are near a stream put it in the stream.

Fire extinguisher, you can get small sized extinguishers at the camping shops.

Ours is in the bottom cupboard on the left hand side, we haven't had cause to use it but it's there should we ever need it. Make sure you don't bury it underneath stuff and know exactly where it is

A plastic box to keep loo rolls in to keep them clean and dry, (before use), and to prevent the dog from eating them.

We did that with the coolbox, I said to Wayne, "did you pack the coolbox?" "Yes he said" having a realisation to where it was. Well it was packed with food but left in the kitchen. Rolling Eyes

Some friends of a friend forgot their tent when they went camping. I now remember why I drive a campervan.

2nd trip tomorrow since i got my dandy, spent most of today getting things ready, you dont really know how much you need till you start.
The first trip i forgot so many things, but not as bad as the man i spoke to who had forgotten his gas bottle, hose and regulator.
I suppose when you get used to it,you know what you can leave in the dandy to save time. Pete Smile
