Hello Everyone!

Post by creativetux on Fri 27 Jul 2012, 1:59 pm

Hey all,

Well after many happy memories camping with a Dandy as a kid, then owning a 70's model to drag behind a Land Rover some years ago, I scored again.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm collecting a 1984/5 Dandy 4/5. No idea on its condition or anything, I just know its stored in a garage and I grabbed it from my local Freecycle group!!

So I've been looking around all week on the web, and come to the conclusion it must be a brown and white model. The one I owned before was Yellow and dark wood which someone painted the trailer bright blue on :/

So, I've no idea what its going to be like or what condition, but for free I can't complain, will be a sleepless night tonight!

and so, after all that excitement..... hello everyone in Dandy Campers forum! Smile

Hello and welcome. There is a delay before you can post images but I'm sure everyone would like pictures as soon as possible. We will no doubt hear more from you once it's home and your assessing the work needed.

and What a bargain, as long as the PVC is sound, then anything else can be repaired.

hey! Thankyou for the warm welcome!!

Well I didn't sleep much and was struggling to find things to do this morning but collecting time came and I was soon on the scene LOL

Pulled up and both tyres were almost off the rims, a spare was there so managed to get that pumped up and changed on one side and the other side I managed to reseat the tyre and get that pumped up too, enough to get me across my little town anyway.

Spent a bit of time talking and it was used for the first 5/6 years of its life then has sat in the garage ever since, changed the tyre over there was no dirt on the back of the rims or anywhere. its like its just come of the factory!

Got home and after tea got it unpacked, took loads of pics at each step because I couldn't believe how clean, and mint it was. The beds are like they have never been used! original carpet and all.

Unpacked the kitchen cupboard to find coffee and hot chocolate with a use by date of 1990/1 Smile

Also found in the floor area is an Lichfield Dandy 4/5 awning! So going to have a go putting that up tomorrow. Again will take loads of pictures in readyness for when i can put them up!

I am totally made up with this, its absolutely mint in every way, corner, shape and you name it. Going to get 3 new tyres on it for safety, and strip and rebuild the hubs for safety then I can see our first nights away happening very soon!

Welcome to the forum!! Looking forward to you being able to post the photos and I can only say that you are a lucky bugger. Being able to find a Dandy for free is one thing but getting one that has been tucked away all this time and is in good nick is something else. The comment about falling off the Co-op and landing in the divvy comes to mind. Tyres were going to be an inevitable anyway but I bet you don't mind going to the expense of a bottle of Cif and some Mr Sheen. Good luck to you and I hope you get lots of use out of him/ her. Thought of a name yet? I reckon that you should. Lucky, Charity, Fortune are ones that would seem apt and there must be many more that would fit the bill.
