Dandy camper awning curtains

Post by mike on Fri 24 Jun 2011, 1:51 pm

First i would like to apologise if you have seen this elsewhere but as its my article i thought i would post it here for our members.
I was always unhappy with the way the awning curtains hung and how the curtain wires where fixed so i opted to use dowling to give me a straighter and more level look to the curtains,in the pictures you will see the dowle suspended from clips using green coated wire,i now am in the process of changing this to chain but hey why rush the wire works.
Also in the picture you will see a rough cut roof liner in the awning, this is because condensation can form on the awning roof, the liner made from two asda bed sheets wont stop the condensation but it gathers any drips and they dry the next day making a problem into a none problem.

I havent yet got my wire for the curtains and am still thinking about dowling I also made a roof liner but was not happy with it as I used single sheets that didn't quite fit so have to get some doubles now. Shocked I started off with kingsize and they ended up on our bed at home because they were really big and had far too much gather and weight......... It will be third time lucky for me and I should have a nice gathered effect like Mikes geek

I have some minor alterations to do to my curtains but for now they will do and as we are going away next week I dont think I will have the time to sort much out so for now may just bring something other than the roof bars to hang them from. scratch

Wept some of these are expensive. try W4 inner tent hook 3/4" [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Just picked up some dowel. On reflection I'd use 12mm or 15mm.

The limiting factor was the size of the hem at the top.
