Dear little Shamrock, by John McCormack, this was first recorded in 1906 when he was around 22 years of age and continues to be sung to this day Very Happy

1. There's a dear little plant that grows in our Isle,
'Twas Saint Patrick himself sure that set it;
And the sun on his labour with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It shines thro' the bog thro' the brake, thro' the mireland,
And he call'd it the dear little Shamrock of Ireland.

cho: The dear little Shamrock, the sweet little Shamrock,
The dear little, sweet little Shamrock of Ireland.

2. That dear little plant still grows in our land,
Fresh and fair as the daughters of Erin,
Whose smiles can bewitch, and whose eyes can command,
In each climate they ever appear in:
For they shine thro' the bog, thro' the brake, and the mireland,
Just like their own dear little Shamrock of Ireland.

3. That dear little plant that springs from our soil,
When its three little leaves are extended,
Denotes from the stalk we together should toil,
And ourselves by ourselves be befriended.
And still thro' the bog, thro' the brake, and the mireland,
From one root should branch, like the Shamrock of Ireland.

That's lovely, thank you for that. When my Mother was alive, she always sent us a sprig of shamrock for Paddy's Day, Sadly no one there to do it now. I'm not even sure it was legal then affraid

You didn't get the shamrock in a little box then? You have made me think I don't know if it was cultivated and sold in the boxes or the boxes were sold to post your own shamrock to foreign parts.
A wave of old memories sweeping over me at this point. My dad getting the weekly copy of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] tied up in a 6" x 4" x 2" brick. My uncle who worked on the roads always keeping an eye out for suitable blackthorn bushes for walking sticks, and patiently plating a good few. The shame of not now having a stick in the house. Dragged to Ireland on holidays as a kid and not wanting to be there, then suddenly changing and couldn't go often enough now.Sadly only seeming to be for weddings and funerals now. Walking into a bar at the age of 27 on a surprise visit over and the woman who owned the place knowing exactly who I was though I wouldn't have set foot in there for 13 years or more.

I overuse You tube songs but what the hell.
