Songs that bring memories back

Post by Helen on Sun 17 Mar 2013, 11:17 am

Essie gave me an idea

There are songs that bring back memories, make us smile or make us emotional ....... so I though't I'd start a thread for the ones you want to share even if you don't want to say why.

If your not sure how to put video's on here this is how you do it

Find your song on youtube, click on the address bar and copy
come back to the forum
click on the icon that looks like a piece of film strip
Paste the address you copied into the bar that comes up
press okay
and then send

That's all there is to it

This was one of my grandmas favourites, she used to sit there humming the tune or singing the song and it always reminds me of her.

This one has sad and happy memories,my first wife's niece who was a great drinking partner of mine when we went out in a group, was killed in a motorcycle accident when this was popular.

When we first ever camped together and Johns first ever camping experience (which he didn't want to have) we just took off in the car with a tent, sleeping bag, airbed and few basics not knowing where we were going or where we'd end up ...... he played this in the car thinking he was funny

Classic tune if you ask nicely the next time I see you I'll show you the scar line in my mouth from getting it split open after dancing with a girl I used to go to school with.
First aid tip here: If you manage to split open an area of flesh and want to clean the wound the patient may find using neat spirits a touch painful.

Trivia. Before the video starts who owned the corner shop?

Oh it's got a didilly didilly de bit at the front so it fits in for St Patrick's Day.

My friend chose her own funeral songs before she passed away ..... she chose this to be the last song played Smile I'll remember her for lots of things but every time I hear this it reminds me of her wicked sense of humour

I've really enjoyed listening to all of the songs on this thread, some I knew and had forgotten about and some are new to me that I really like and will listen to again. Smile

My nephew used to have a football bar in Thailand, and i had four great holidays there.
24 hour eating, drinking, and having fun.
But the recession hit and he had to come back to England.
But i have a lasting memory of drunk football supporters dancing in his bar to this. Very Happy

Jesus Helen you have not progressed much from a first slow dance to a song about Rigsby's cat to a bloke who's favourite tune was carking in the sun.

Kimmie. Yes many football fan's used the song also terminating (???) in the line but the joy didn't last because the bastards ran too fast.

It could have been worse Caz it could be nowadays and you would get to listen to Liam Neeson instead of Richard Burton Garry Barlow and Ricky Wilson instead of David Essex, Maverick Sabre instead of Phil Lynott.

This brings back memories to me as well a mate of mine owned a record pressing plant (not as grand as it sounds).
He owned the cutting deck that War Of The Worlds was cut on.
Bar an album that related to a film that I have the only thing he pressed that I can remember was this.

This is an excellent thread Smile

My wife had a difficult time with the birth of our daughter but it all came good in the end.

Leaving the hospital after over 24hrs without sleep I put the radio on loud to help me stay awake and this was the first song on.

It made me think of all the years ahead and the emotions really hit then.

Perhaps i shouldn't share the full story, but when i was young a mate fell into the trap of believing a girl was a certain age and she looked it,so on journeys out for the day we used to sing this to him, affraid
He was a lot more careful after that
