You can put all Dandy's away wet andy, so as for colour and size .... you have choices

Ah well it now becomes a compromise. Most things in life are.

4's, 41/2, 5 otherwise the Dart, Delta or Designer/Discovery. Given the weight, actually given almost any weight all are almost as easy to tow as each other. Unless you wan't to camp in winter insulated is not an absolute, even then it is more about condensation than cold. The underfloor heater is the big thing as (I presume) you will end up at rallies without EHU.
Older ones have easier to erect awnings, also how old are the kids, can they help? To be practical I'd go straight to a 5/Designer/Discovery, the extra space  be it 1' or 1'10" is so much more than the numbers make it look.
The old Blue/Green/Orange Dandies might add a bit of credibility from age but the earliest were from 1965 not 1935 so not that cred.
Depending on how much you like old don't discount old Dandies good 40 year old ones need surprisingly little work.
The old Lowside 6's can be found for pennies (only 1 on eBay's completed listings cost over £500.00) With your vehicle I doubt much harder to tow (Though ultimately the French towing speed and then some is no fear for the small Dandies because of their geometry. Though your car may do well over 80 I doubt it is too good on wind noise) The bonus is 6's are slightly more cumbersome but more space than many caravans and the awning doesn't have to be put up to have a really functional family space.

If you start to look at the Highsides be it the older 750Kg ones or the luxurious 1,000Kg later Riva Highsides then it starts to become a possible caravan replacement. Yes Helen i know you junked a massive caravan because you prefer your Designer. So should I say it becomes a realistic caravan replacement for a greater number of campers.

Have a good look at the model descriptions:http://www.dandycampers.org/t27-dandy-trailer-tent-folding-camper-identification-and-information Ah Helen seen you have already been there.

While it might be difficult being in Scotland look at as many as you can so you start to see the faults. Read up as much as you can on here, though given your choice of vehicle i expect you to be practical.

Having just taken the rip elsewhere one important thing to remember is that even the expensive things on Dandys are pennies and hapenies compared to caravans.

that'll be me he's taking the rip out of What a Face  but he is right and they are also so much simpler to rectify & maintain than any caravan. I went to the dark side and bought a caravan affraid affraid affraid but it cost me a fortune and wasn't as much fun as the Dandy and the beds were a pain to make up and were no where near as comfortable as my Dandy bed, I do have a very lovely Dandy bed with memory foam topper Sleep Sleep Sleep

Daft thing is the van was all sorted out and sound when we sold it so I spent all that money (could have bought me a few dandy's) for someone else Embarassed

   better late than never

can't wait to see the marriage of the Dandy to your motor
Dandy fanatics will notice the Dandy and then the car
motor fanatics will notice the motor and not notice the Dandy

A Delta or an older 4/5 and where are the photos? On reflection it will be a Delta if it has skirts.

It wasn't the one in Wales was it? [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Can't remember what your needs are, if you're not interested in the 6 get them to post on here there have been a few members looking for a reasonably priced Blue 6 or is it not blue?

no bought it out by greenock (glasgow)
yep same as the one in the ebay add
will try & post some photos soon
dandy andy Rolling Eyes

the 6 is a light brown not orange

Light brown or Coffee a la the Phoenix's 6?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Probably not insulated so not quite as perfect for winter but oodles of space. Oodles of space without erecting the awning either so can be v practical for weekends. I have seen people winter camp in an uninsulated Dandy.

Depending on age 6's don't fetch a lot but quite a few prefer Coffee to Brown.
