Just became a Dandy owner

Post by urbtaf on Tue 18 Nov 2014, 9:14 pm

Been looking for a Dandy for nearly 12 months, ever since we were camped (tent) near one in the peak district. We were wet, they were not! then the owner told me that he bought it 19 years ago and would not consider anything else.
 And so the search began!!!
Too dear/ too much work needed, E.C.T. Im sure most of you know what I mean.
Then tonight, browsing E-Bay, a light blue Dandy, looked ok, new wheel bearings, newish proper trailer tyres (something Im fussy about)
The kitchen has been removed, and it needs a bit of tidying on the panels, but looks OK otherwise.
A starting bid of £300 and nobody had bid! so I did, and won it at that, and its only about 30 miles away in Driffield.
Now sods law. A new car on the drive which has not got a towbar yet. So a mad panic to try and get one fitted and collect our new Dandy by the weekend.
But we are now proper Dandy owners and will look forward to meeting up with some of you to pick your brains before I cock something up by "mending" it  clown

Well done and welcome to the forum and the world of dandies. They really are good and so much better than a tent and to top it all, you can use it at this time of year.

Thank you all. Went and fetched it today, first time the wife has ever towed anything so she was a bit scared. 5 miles down the road and she says "well theres nowt to this towing lark" I smiled to myself and thought "wait till you do your first emergency stop".
It turns out to be a light blue Designer. the electrics have not long been done and all seems in order, proper trailer tyres ect.
Not much history so no idea how old it is, but now get to spent the weekend playing dandys, makes me happy!! Wink

Congratulation and welcome urbtaf.

Looking forward to seeing your photos.

You will be taking photos, won't you.

It's an unwritten forum rule that we must have photos bounce

There should be a two digit date stamped on the A frame somewhere.

Hi everyone - Mrs Urbtaf here,  Would anyone care to give me an idiots guide to posting pics please, I've taken a few pics and got them on the pc but have absolutely no idea how to get them on here so you can all pick spots off our new baby Laughing Don't know who is the worst technophobe between me and my darling OH.  xA

EDIT: scrap the plea for help, I found an idiiots guide somewhere on the forum when having a nose around.

All comments, criticisms (please be gentle) hints and tips are welcome xA

Looks like you got a real bargain, fully insulated as well which means you can honestly camp in any weather just bang the heating up and enjoy.

I notice you have a tire mark on it try to remove it but dont be too upset if you cant they are often impossible to remove.

Yes Mike I think we have a real bargain, and the wife thinks the tyre mark is a bonus and she is going to make a feature out of it! any creative ideas welcome. Smiley face?

A fantastic bargain, no doubt about it. I'd certainly have snapped it up at that price.

It'll be an early '90s model.

Identical (apart from the modifications) to our first Dandy for which we paid £1300.

I hope you have lots of great times with it.

Yes looks very good and an incredible price. That kitchen looks more useful than the original as you can probably store stuff in folding crates which you can carry in the car and just move into the dandy. Sink tops and cookers do come up now and again if you want one.You can get lightweight drawer units which may for storage as well.

Is there an awning?

Have you got the table, probably not as the seats have been removed as well.

It's got glass windows so will be 1994 or earlier. Light blue/white started in 1987.

There is a what I think must be a date on the A frame  94C  I guess that stands for 1994 any idea what the C means? As for the name Annette is going through girly names but I keep saying naw. just to annoy her.

94C looks like the date. I would guess the C mean third quarter but that is a guess. The serial number will be in front of the date.

Another guess: C could also be
A dart
B Delta
C Designer/Discovery
D Destiny
