1960's Dandy

Post by Iane on Sun 07 Dec 2014, 8:07 pm

Hi I have recently bought what I believe to be a 1960's Dandy as it has an anle iron frame and plywood body panels. The frame is currently black and the plywood varnished my question is this correct or should it be some other colour?

Is there a date on the A frame. It's usually stamped into the A frame itself. There may be more stamping on the hitch but that's not the date. It may be a serial number followed by two numbers and a letter. Those to numbers will be the date.

The colour indicating the date was usually the PVC walls. They seemed to start with a blue, then green then orange then brown. If you can let us know the colour and maybe a few photos we will be able to help a lot more.

The trailer was phenolic coated ply so plywood with a black frame means it has probably been replaced although I'm not sure if that was the case with the very early ones.

Must be doing something wrong as photo's wont attach. The reason I think it is a 1960's unit is the tow hitch (can not reverse trailer without first putting clip on hitch to stop brake coming on) and the angle iron frame which I understand was last used in 1968.

Hello Iane

It's hard to tell the difference between square section tube and angle iron from photos. Given that I've never seen outside tube framing it must be one of the very early angle iron Dandys. The only other one I know is owned by Caz Numbers (Caz 1960 is the formal user name) Just looking she's not been online for a while (who am I to comment on this!) Caz is I believe doing her's up. I would be most interested in interior photos when erected. I'm sure Caz would be too.
I'm assuming the ply was originally phenolic ply and has been replaced. I'd assume the ply was almost certainly replaced if it was was a really early model and some ply of a lesser quality had been used.
