Phoenix says Hi

Post by Phoenix on Wed 07 Sep 2011, 11:15 pm

We thought we would have a look and see what you guys are up to. We have just about finished a total rebuild of our early 70's 4 berth Dandy named Phoenix, as she has arisen from the ashes. We hope to take her out on her first run for about 18 years soon.

Hi Phoenix, I do think Phoenix is a good name for your revived 70's Dandy. I bet you are looking forward to your first trip in her after such a long time. It will feel very strange I reckon.

Hi All, and thank you all for the warm welcome.
Please be gentle with us, we are still getting use to this forum thinghy.
Its a long story but Phoenix fell into disrepair as a previous partner of mine wasn't exactly the camping type! My Wife and I now of 10 years have always thought of rebuilding her and getting her back on the road. A push from a friend of ours made us grab the bull by the horns on the 25th of June. We should be on the road hopefully this weekend or next. We will try to put some photos on for you to see her.

Our 7 days are up so we will try to put some photos here for you all.
This is where we started stripping her out on the 25th of June.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Since then we have come a long way. Phoenix has been stripped right down to her bare chassis, parts of which we renewed. She has been repainted, her sides and floor renewed. Her top half was in good condition, which says a lot for the Dandy. This we cleaned and refitted. We had to get a new travel cover, the old one had got brittle. Here is how she looks now.

We have taken photos of our progress throughout her rebuild.
Last weekend the Dogs and us spent our first couple of nights trying her out in the back garden.
We are going on our first road trip this coming weekend. Very Happy

well done phoenix, that is really impressive

How about technical & Servicing, it would be great if others can see your rebuild pics........... the ones already on here are inspirational. May even help people to see how to rescue a Dandy.

Mike,

When Phoenix was bought 19 or so years ago she came with the sun canopy, we are pretty sure it is an original. We did buy a matching awning a few months ago before we rebuilt her, but when we came to try it out Phoenix does not have the flaps with the press studs on the bat wings to fit it to. It has been suggested to have these fitted but we think that would spoil her originality. So we have now sold it. Somebody has said that when ordered from new you could choose wether to have an awning for your Dandy or not. It would be interesting to know if anybody has seen one for Phoenix or if she is a one off?

On the 6 i have noticed they where built with both awning fixing system over the years,i have been told if the 6 has press studs fixing you can still fit the other type that go under the bed end roof pieces dont know if awnings with both fixings are available for yours.
