Your roof will look loads better once it's done, so far we've only done the inside of ours because it gripped like mad to the metal bars when putting it up. We also had the top tip of using polish or silicon spray, what an amazing difference that made, it glides perfectly now. But don't get silicone spray on your glasses. affraid

So to clarify. The silicone spray is used on the inside to make the hoops slide easier.
Do I also put in on the OUTSIDE to help water run off??

I have "wash n' waxed" it twice now it's clean, but doesn't seem to have done much.

I just Mr Sheened ours on the outside of the roof. I will try the silicone spray next time I do it.

Cleaning your Dandy

Post by Terry Baynham on Tue 10 Apr 2012, 9:52 pm

Hi Y'all
I would like to offer my five penneth to this topic. I use showroom shine from greased lightning to clean all the paint work and hard plastics on my Dandy. You don't have to use water and it protects and waxes the paint work. I even used it on the cover which was very tree sap dirtied and it brought it up lovely. I am told that you can use it on plastics and pvc but haven't dared to do that as yet. All you need is two micro fibre cloths and a bottle of Showroom Shine to get fantastic results. Get it on the Ideal World web site.

If it worked on the pvc cover then it will work on the Dandy pvc

Yep! It works! In fact Greased Lightening (or Showroom Shine as its also known) works on cars Dandy's, motor homes, static caravans, windows, furniture, boats, in fact just about anything you fancy polishing. Don't do the windscreen of your car with it though as it can cause visibility problems when it rains.

That's a toxic ingredient but that's all I know because I googled it and it comes from crude oil Laughing

The Dandy brochure on dandytrailertent says:

"The polyester PVC fabric is washable with any normal cleaner. We have not found one that will affect it yet other than abrasives which will scratch the polished surface. You can even remove paint or tar with polystripper or petrol if necessary"

That was 16 years after they started manufacture so must be about 1980 when colour choice was orange or brown.

Look in the page with lots of writing in the left hand column.

I think you may be able to clean them with nearly anything my concern which i know is shared by others is the difference between removing paint or using a solvent cleaner once to solve a problem or repeatedly as a normal course of action,i know upc cleaners work by removing a microscopic layer, some solvents would soften the surface with constant use and i have never needed them,a clean with cif and a coat of mr sheen inside and out does the job.

Have i been using the wrong cif?(multi surface actifizz cleaner) Neutral
It works, but not as well as Vim Classic cream cleaner which i presume is similar to Cif cream cleaner.
It says on the Vim bottle non abasive cream.
I have tried it on the cover, but dont know whether to try it on the dandy? Pete.

Yep Mike what a difference to the old cover, i would think theres not much difference between the makes.
Wouldnt be suprised if the cream came from the same supplier.

I've used supermarkets own brands of cream cleaner because they're cheaper and they work

I have now done about a third of the cover with vim cream cleaner today, its taken about 2 hours but what a difference its made considering its 18 years old.
Where i have cleaned the cover, its put the suppleness back in. Pete Smile

Looking in the loft yesterday for something else, i found a JML Steam Genie that i forgot i had.
Tried it today on the Dandy cover, what a time saver.
I have finished cleaning the cover on the outside and i have done most of the inside.
I don't know if it would be worth buying one, but if you know someone who has one you can borrow, it will save a lot of elbow grease. Pete Very Happy

yep steamer loosened the dirt, then used cream cleaner, then steamed again.
The cover had never been cleaned in 18 years so needed cream cleaner as well, but the steamer made it a lot easier, will put polish on it tomorrow. Smile
