Dandy folding camper utility tent

Post by mike on Thu 16 Jun 2011, 4:23 pm

This is by far the cheapest and easiest option if you dont want an awning, most of them have a opening front panel that can be used as a sun canopy,we use ours for short stays or as a toilet tent as in this picture.

Never used a day tent but will need one for our dandy, do the sites except them as an awning and charge for that, how does it work on your site costs? Thanks jen.

We haven't ever been charged for our utility tent Jen, I tell them its a loo/toilet tent and it's always been okay but check first as I know Mike was charged once. As for a day tent, you would have to check with the campsite as some charge for gazebo's, but we haven't yet been charged for using one and as for paying for an awning take a leaf out of Mike's book and call it a trailer tent as many of them don't have a seperate awning they don't get charged.

I know you may not be able to get to any meets unless we are in the right place for you but i can honestly say a couple of drinks down Helen and she will have you in stitches with some of the situations her trusting/helping nature has landed her in.

Ha ha.....sounds a bit like me, my Mom is always telling me off for getting myself into difficult situations trying to help people out! Still you cant change your nature, you are what you are but it doesnt mean to say the rest of the world is and that can cause problems sometimes!!!

Referring to the utility/toilet tents, we have green one similar to the first picture, but much smaller, it's really easy to put up but in the wind I was always afraid that it would break and blow into the campervan and damage both. We now use that with the Dandy because it can be put either side away from the wind, and be sheltered by the Dandy, also it matches.

We also have one exactly the same as the second picture. This goes up really easily, but I would say not as easy to take down, although it's not exactly hard to do. The biggest advantage of this type, is in the wind it just bends, flexes and flops around. I wouldn't like to use is as a kitchen in the wind, but with a Dandy you won't need to.

We use both for the toilet at one side and the fridge at the other, it's also good for storing the chairs etc. Very Happy

As you can probably guess, it's always windy when ever we go away. Evil or Very Mad

Hi everyone, what do you think of this? [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Do you think it would be any quicker to put up than the awning? It is quite large but has double doors?

jen,
dont be put off by the dandy awning the first time it probably will take a little time
but once you know how it all goes together its straightforward with two average height and strength people, we had a movelite awning and sold it cos it took the same amount of time to put up once you had fiddled with all the clips and threading through poles etc Wink

Got to agree about the awning worth the effort and it gets easier, mine is even easier now with zip out sides.
